Election Statement
OR nurses today face many unprecedented challenges; staffing shortages, increased demand for OR efficiency, improving patient outcomes, tracking safe reports, orienting new employees, and maintaining competence with the latest technology. Although this environment sounds overwhelming, OR nurses are resilient and passionate about taking care of their surgical patients. When the health care world is unstable, ie, during the COVID-19 pandemic, OR nurses can depend on evidenced-based practice direction from AORN. The AORN Board of Directors is responsible for the Association’s strategic vision and financial sustainability that influences perioperative nursing practice across the globe, no matter how volatile the market is. AORN members expect and deserve the most qualified Board of Directors’ candidates. Candidate characteristics require the knowledge and passion of present OR operations, including experience in the surgical suite and the hospital boardroom. In my 35 years of OR nursing, my career path includes scrubbing, circulating, charging, and directing Perioperative Services, and in my existing position, directing education across an extensive medical system. My experience as an OR director prepared me to plan, direct and coordinate surgical nursing activities. I always prioritized developing and implementing strategic goals and objectives while offering high-quality patient care services. As a result, I know the current issues facing AORN members, and I offer my experience and passion to the Board of Directors. I am a proud member of AORN and am humbled to be nominated for the Board of Directors. I would appreciate your vote in this election year. Thank you.
